Autograph letter signed : Edinburgh, to George Ellis, 1804 May 4.

Mentioning that he has been engaged in traveling back and forth to Selkirkshire on business and that he has procured a "decent farm-house " in Reged that will save him from "these teasing migrations;" inviting Ellis to visit and describing a proposed itinerary, looking forward to showing him the border; reporting that "Sir Tristrem" is published and promising to send "three uncastrated copies" for Ellis, Heber and Douce. Describing the merits of a very near relative who is obliged "by some untoward circumstances to turn his eyes towards Jamaica," and asking Ellis to recommend him to his contacts in the West Indies.
